A
Complex Cocktail of Love Hormones
This documentary looks at home births. The title is taken from the
words of famous French Obstetrician Michel Odent, as he speaks of
a time when women had to release a "complex cocktail of love hormones"
in order to give birth. Nowadays, with the industrialisation of
childbirth, many women in labour are subjected to a series of MEDICAL
interventions. A number of women choose to have their babies at
home in order to avoid such interference in what they see as a natural
event. These and other aspects of home birth are examined in this
documentary which features the experiences of parents and professionals. Produced by
Jacqui Corcoran at the RTÉ Waterford Studio.

schemes have been told by the major insurance companies that if
claims increase, so too will their subscriptions.Monica O'Connor of the Homebirths Association and Dr Christine Thompkins
of the Insurers Medical Defence Union discuss the issue
