And here is a little bit about our teacher Louise Horgan, who is expecting a baby herself!
In addition to being an expereinced Yoga teacher, Lou has trained in pre and postnatal Yoga, just in time to enjoy the benefits for her own pregnancy - Yoga practice is the perfect accompaniment to this very special time in a woman's life. It not only encourages tone, flexibility, stamina and relaxation all invaluable for labour and birth. It also creates an opportunity for the expectant mother to be in her own body with her own breath, cultivating a deeper connection with her pregnancy and baby - providing a constant in this ever-changing time.
Lou is delighted to be teaching at Rani's studio to share and learn from all the mothers and babies to come.

Giving Birth on Your Own Two Feet
Active Birth Workshop
The workshop is split into two sessions, we recommend you do both. During this lively and interactive discussion you will learn:
Part I
• how to get up to 28% extra space in your pelvic outlet
• the anatomy and physiology of birth including the cocktail of hormones and the wonder of the pelvis
• what is pain and why it is there
• the benefits and risks of medical interventions and drugs during labour and their effects on you and your baby
• what to really expect in a hospital birth, midwifery led unit, consultant led unit and home birth
• films of natural births
Part II
• breath and relaxation techniques to increase your ability to maximise your own pain relieving hormones and keep labour progressing
• labouring and birthing positions
• practical tips on stress reduction in the hospital environment
• optimal foetal positioning
• partner's role and ideas for maximising their support
• perineal care
• Homeopathy in childbirth - common remedies for pain, fear, disappointment, ineffectual contractions, exhaustion
• postnatal tips
This workshop is lead by The elbowroom's founder, Lisa Wilkinson. Mother of Tuilelaith, Lisa teaches, yoga and pre-natal yoga in addition to the active birth workshops. She has trained with the YTTC and Birth International in pre-natal yoga and Active Birthing. Lisa is a doula (birth attendant to provide support for women during their pregnancy and birth) and has worked in all the major maternity hospitals.
Booking essential, to guarantee your spot, a €30 deposit to be received at time of booking. Please note, you must attend part I, before part II.
